Mercantile: Daring and classic vintage in downtown phoenix

Doubling as a vintage boutique and salon, Mercantile is a center for style in downtown Phoenix.
Mercantile offers men’s and women’s vintage clothing and accessories, along with handmade local goods, and awesome hair cuts!
“Classically timeless and refreshingly current.  Resourceful and sophisticated. Effortlessly tasteful,” is how Shauna Thibault, owner of Mercantile, describes her shop. With the number of rare finds I have from this local shop I couldn’t help but agree with Thibault, and it is no surprise that the pieces are hand-picked with nothing but good taste.
The boutique’s muses include a range of inspiration from timeless style icons such as Jane Birkin to contemporary trendsetters like Erin Wasson. Thibault says, “We look to women who are effortlessly chic yet bold and intentional with their fashion choices.” You will find daring and classic pieces here, definitely a place for any fashionista in the Phoenix area.
But what is so appealing about vintage and where did this obsession in our culture come from? Is it all the old photographs and movies we’re exposed to? Or maybe it’s the excitement of feeling like you are time traveling by wearing fashion from another era. I asked Thibault the simple question — why wear vintage? — and she answered, “For maximum personalization and affordability.” It’s great to live in an era where you can express yourself through your own vintage or modern muse, and live in an area where so many great vintage shops are available.
Mercantile will be at Songbird Coffee & Tea House from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, providing a small curation of their finest new merchandise.
“Grab a friend, pick up an amazing coffee, and shop for some new threads with lots of soul. I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday!” Thibault says.
In case you don’t get to check out the trunk show on Saturday, you can find Mercantile on 828 N. Central Ave. between McKinley and Roosevelt. Their store hours are Tuesday-Friday 12-6pm and Saturdays 10am-4pm.
Enjoy, fellow vintage loves!
